Minimalist fan-art movie posters are becoming damn-near ubiquitous out there, but occasionally one cuts through the clutter.
This one is cool.
Make-up artist Stuart Freeborn gets a little touch-up from Empire director Irvin Kershner. Freeborn, who passed away this week at the age of 98, modeled Yoda’s face after his own with a little Albert Einstein thrown in. (The model was not, as my Mormon friends always told me while I was growing up in Utah, LDS president/prophet Ezra Taft Benson.)
Freeborn created Chewbacca as well, who still lives and breathes in my imagination as one of the most believable alien creatures ever put on screen. With most of the others, I see a guy in a suit or a puppet or CGI… but Chewie’s real, man. And I love him. So, Stuart, wherever you are, thank you for your hand in creating my childhood friend…
Here’s a behind-the-scenes shot I’ve never seen before… Carrie really had a thing for the nonhuman cast members, it seems.
