Issue #34 of Mediascene magazine, with Buck Rogers cover art by Jim Steranko.
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope by Jidé
Wonderful… recalls the style of the very earliest Star Wars poster art by John Berkey, before the Struzan style became the saga’s default (not that there’s anything at all wrong with Struzan’s style… I own several of his one-sheets!).
I love the energy here, capturing the excitement of a time when Star Wars was new and not yet a franchise. And the border treatment that recalls the
’70s-vintage jigsaw puzzles is a really nice touch! Bravo, Jide’!
Vintage Galactica art, artist unknown. Appeared on the cover of a magazine called Space Wars, as I recall…
Artwork from the Jurassic Park pinball machine by Data East. The large T.rex is not actually from Jurassic Park, but based on a John Gurche painting for the cover of The Dinosaur Heresies by Robert Bakker.
I was working at a movie theater when Jurassic Park came out in 1993. We brought in one of these games to go along with the movie. I dumped a lot of quarters in that thing…
A favorite by Frank Frazetta, “Savage Pellucidar” (1974).
I still have the paperback book with this on the cover somewhere in my basement.
It makes me sad that you no longer see vehicles decorated like this. If I ever become a parent and need to get a minivan, I’m doing it!
